Press Release

The oscillating fissures which are recently developing within the Pak-US relations and which might further develop within the Pak Afghan geo strategic parley have posed serious threats to human security and peace in the region. An uncalculated response from any of the major stakeholders might seriously jeopardize the peace efforts and could lead to disastrous consequences.
Significant in this regard is Pakistan’s balancing role in the regional instabilities. For Pakistan to perform this crucial and inevitable role – if sanity prevails – it must qualify the definition of modern statehood having stability within and credibility without. It is time to address the long standing issue of a pro- people Pakistan willing to invest in its people than to carry on with the colonial legacy which has forced the Pakistanis to follow ambiguous state narratives both ideologically and strategically.
Aryana Institute for Regional Research and Advocacy suggests an alternative discourse which focuses on peace within the country and integration with the modern civilization. Firstly the zeitgeist must be understood which is constituted by free market, knowledge-based economy, democratic dispensation and a culture of dialogue. Secondly post-colonial ambiguous state narratives need to be revisited and the so-called national interest redefined and substituted by a pro-people narrative of peace and economic development. Thirdly the will of the people through democratic institutionalization must be trusted and honored. Fourthly foreign policy needs to be debated within the parliament which must be in consonance with the redefined national interests.
On immediate level Pakistan should not isolate itself from international community and must further strengthen its ties with regional and international partners. Political leadership should play the proactive role by further strengthening its ties with the people and build on their achievements such as effective counter terrorism measures and the passage and implementation of the 18th constitutional amendment.
